For years now, scientists have not been able to find answers to the barren patches of land found around the Namib desert of Namibia and Angola. This fact has generated myths by the locals. They say a Dragon live beneath the Namib desert and that it fiery breath burns the surface of the area.
Recently, a German Professor, Norbert Jurgens claimed he has found the answers to the phenomenon. After series of voyage and experiments of the region, he came out to say that sand termites are responsible for the 'fairy circles found in the Namib desert. According to him, the sand termites are the only species living in the region, and they eat up plant roots before to come to the surface, thereby creating water lop to the desert surface.
Because of the absence of foliage, rain water is not wasted, but stays on the surface. This lets the sand termites to stay alive during the dry season and also helps the grasses to live at the edge of the circle.
