Google won't approve Glass apps for facial recognition

Google announce late Friday in a post on its Google+page for project Glass that it won't approved apps designed for Glass to recognize the faces of people without their consent.
According to Google,
Glass and Facial Recognition
When we started the Explorer Program nearly a year ago our goal was simple: we wanted to make people active participants in shaping the future of this technology ahead of a broader consumer launch. We've been listening closely to you, and many have expressed both interest and concern around the possibilities of facial recognition in Glass. As Google has said for several years, we won't add facial recognition features to our products without having strong privacy protections in place. With that in mind, we won't be approving any facial recognition Glassware at this time.
We've learned a lot from you in just a few weeks and we'll continue to learn more as we update the software and evolve our policies in the weeks and months ahead'' Google said.
This report by no means  Google won't approve facial recognition apps for glass in future, Google just wants to calm everyone for now..

The team were able to find answers as to how we could better communicate with coma patients by carrying out a study about what we are thinking.
They asked the participants to answer questions on a ''Yes'' or ''No'' response without speaking it, but only think their response.
They answered questions as shown in the scanner, and their response without speaking it.  Whereupon the researchers studied their brain activity as they give answers to the questions shown, and were able to translate the correct answers for each participant.

Apple take down gay ''cure'' app from its app store

An anti-gay app made especially to help free people from the captive of homosexuality has been taken down by Apple from its app store. The app titled ''setting captives free'' was built by a non interdenominational ministry, after the founder Mike Cleveland,  a formal airline pilot was completely free from homosexuality.
Apple took down the app because so many gay users and groups started a petition to have the app pull down. From what I read, more than 150,000 homosexuals signed to pull down the app.

Do WiFi signals affect plant growth?

Recent findings by five girls from a primary school in Denmark have proved that plant growth could be affected by WiFi signals. The five girls decided to carry out the experiment after noticing that when they slept with mobile phones near their heads in the night, they realized they could not focus on their studies the following day.
So in order to find out if wireless signals truly affect the human brains, they decided to make do with the equipment they had at their disposal, they placed plants near WiFi routers---what they found out shocked them.
The group took six trays of a garden cress herb and placed them in one room without WiFi routers, and another six tray with same seeds placed with WiFi routers in a different room.
The seeds placed in a room without WiFi routers, after during 12 days of the experiment, grew well while the other seeds placed near the WiFi routers did not. As you can see in the photo above, the seeds placed near the WiFi routers died.

HTC First ''Facebook phone'' will never go on sale in the UK

Too bad, HTC first and Facebook smartphone, which come preloaded with ''Facebook home'' software will no longer go on sale in the UK as planned. From what I read, the decision not to 'never' launch the smartphone in the UK came from Facebook itself.
The reason is that,  after the phone went on sale in the US, sales were poor, and moreover the phone lacks some features. Facebook said it will add more customization features for the next couple of months.
Customers who had preordered the device will be informed about this shortly.
However, those wish to try Facebook Home can still do so if they have the supported devices for which Home can be downloaded from Google Play.

Finding happy faces in Google Maps terrain, what can you see?

Something our human eyes seem to do, without any prompting, is to pick out shapes and structures that resemble other shapes and structures. Called pareidolia, it's a form of pattern recognition -- and a good example is the way we often see a human face where only a random collection of shapes or shadows exists. This, it is now known, is the reason for the infamous face on Mars.
Our own Earth, as folded and rippled as it is, is also prone to this phenomenon when viewed from above: the Badlands Guardian, discovered on Google Earth in 2006, for example. But we're sure there are many more human-esque faces lurking in

Ex-criminal built Theif-proof device to help protect world ATMs while still serving six year jail term

Just as Martin Lawrence said in a movie ''If, I was a thief, I would definitely know where and how to break into this building''.
Valentin Boanta is a Romanian computer specialist who is currently serving a five-year jail term after he was found guilty of supplying a gang of Romanian robbers  with gadgets with which they used to scan magnetic strip of  bank cards and used them to withdraw cash via ATM. But, he tuned a new leaf after he was cut. To my surprise, he said he became happy after he was caught.
While still serving his six year jail term, he thought of a way to help protect world's ATMs. He built his SRS, Secure Revolving System, which can help to protect cardholders against Skimmers.
Here's how the device works:
First, the cardholder insert the card into the SRS long edge. By this, Skimmers or any Skimming gadgets would find it so difficult to scan the magnetic strip at the back of the card.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9

Amazon has hit the top-mark in mobile technology when it introduces the Kindle Fire into the mobile market. Amazon has since made huge sales from the kindle fire and its app store. Consumers are rating the Kindle Fire to be a better competitor to the iPad and other tablets brands. Since the inception of the Kindle Fire, sales from other tablets brands has seriously dropped. Several factors contributed to kindle high sales which make consumers to pick it as a better option when shopping for a tablets.
The Kindle Fire has many features in one: Watching TV shows, streaming videos, play games, reading E-book, and surfing the internet. With all these features, it has in no doubt be the 'world best sold gadgets'. But what makes it a must buy?
The Price: The price tag on the Kindle Fire HD is probably one of the facts that made it have an edge on other tablets. At $269, the Kindle Fire is half the price of the new iPad 3. With almost the same features as the iPad, consumers tend to go for the Kindle Fire for it's low price.
Portability: The kindle is more portable than the iPad. Not heavy, not small and just right for the palm. With the 7-in touchscreen, makes it suitable for watching streaming videos, TV shows, play games, read e-book and movies. Consumers prefer to go
around with a portables, and they see the Kindle Fire as best option.
Colors touchscreen: like i mention above on the portability section, the 7-colour touchscreen display of the Fire is one thing consumers finds amazing. Thi7 tablets utilize in-plane switching technology panel ( IPS). This technology has small crystals which lie parallel to the IPS touchscreen. This means an exciting scene when you are watching movies with others. You don't have to be directly towards to the monitor in order to see the screen display. IPS technology has definitely improve the color quality by providing 16 million colors in high definition.
The Kindle Fire is no iPad. Though it lack some features as the iPad, it could still be a better option

Simeon Eyituoyo ''NCC, please respect Nigerians''

Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, is proposing to enact a law that will allow security officials in the country to have access to our private communications. According to what I read,It decided to propose the law because of the  present security situation in the country. Nevertheless, I personally believe such act is an infringement of fundamental human rights.
As Nigerians, we all know how security officials behave in this country. Give them one minute of liberty, and they turned everything up and down. Some of them might even trade with our identities.
What does this mean? it means if am making a phone call, everything I say is recorded by  an ''oga at the top'', thereby giving them access to do whatsoever they so desire with my info. It is that bad.

By the way, I heard NCC is also planing to ban Blackberry service in Nigeria. Hmmm! I rest my case. But I must not fail to write this, NCC whatever you do, please put the interest of Nigerians at heart.
