I don't know much about 3D printing or how it works, but it shocked me to know that 3D printing could actually save lives someday.
A young South African boy, named Liam, has seen the better sides of 3D printing when he benefited work done by Ivan Owen, a part time mechanical special effects artist in Washington.
Ivan Owen has been in partnership with a South African wood worker who lost his four fingers to workshop accident. Thus, they were developing a ''robohand'' for the wood worker. Luckily enough, Liam mother saw their blog posts about the ''robohand'' they were developing. She therefore contacted Ivan Owen.
So, they decided to make Liam is own ''robohand'' and the result has been life-changing. The boy can do things he couldn't do before like: push a shopping cart, throw a basketball and even pick a coin with his prosthetic hand.
